About
Discover the ancient Korean martial art of Hopaesool. Rooted in tradition yet practical for modern self-defense, Hopaesool harnesses the power of a small weapon to create a formidable martial system. Learn its history, benefits, and applications.“Hopae” was an identification card that men over the age of 16 had during the Chosun Dynasty. Nobles used Hopae made of ivory while ordinary people used wooden Hopae. Sometimes, Hopae was used as a martial art weapon in emergency situation. Later, it was systematically developed as martial art using Hopae. It is call ‘Hopaesool’ However, since its power so great it was not open to the public.
The benefits of Hopaesool
The main advantage of Hopaesool is that the weapon you use, the “Hopae”, is very small and easy to carry. Even if you're an expert in swordsmanship, you probably don't carry a sword every day. However, because of its small size, you can carry it with you at all times, making it easy to use in self-defense. The second advantage is that it can be learned very quickly and is very powerful. It only takes about three months to learn the art, and it's so powerful that it can be used in practice to defeat enemies. Thirdly, it encourages people to act justly and not be ashamed of their name because they use their own name on the blow. Therefore, it is a martial art that is optimized for self-defense to protect oneself in a critical situation.
The Usabilities of Hopae
The “Hopae” is a cultural heritage from the Chosun Dynasty and can be used as a souvenir. If you write the name of the recipient on it, it will be a meaningful souvenir. It can also be used by martial arts leaders as a plaque on their desk. They can also be used as recognition plaques for masters of each martial art, or as prizes for martial arts competitions. It is a unique and unique traditional weapon in the world and can be widely used as a souvenir.
The future of Hopaesool
The future of the Hopaesool is to make it into the Olympic Games. The Olympic Committee is looking to raise the profile of the organization by accepting more sports. Recently, B-Boying, climbing, skateboarding, and surfing have been added to the Olympic Games. However, there is a catch. Sports that are similar to those that are already part of the Olympic program are not eligible. Kendo, for example, has many practitioners around the world, but fencing is already an Olympic sport. It's a similar sport that's practiced with a sword, albeit in a different form and method. Since taekwondo, which uses hands and feet, is already an Olympic sport, it would be very difficult for the similar-looking karate to join the Olympic Committee.
However, since Hopaesool doesn't involve spinning ropes, it's possible to join the Olympic Games by creating organizations in more than 50 countries worldwide. In the past, it took a long time to create organizations in various countries, but in the internet age, it is not that difficult if you promote it well. For example, if BTS used “Hopae” once, the next day, the sport would be recognized worldwide. I would like to join the Olympic Games by creating two events: a competition with the Hopae and a competition in which you hold the Hopae and perform moves according to your style for a given time.
My dream is that many martial artists around the world will continue to work hard on the martial arts they have been practicing and learn additional Hopaesool. My dream is to create a festival of martial artists where they can demonstrate their martial arts the day before the Hopaesool competition, interact and enjoy each other's company, and then compete in a Hopaesool match the next day. If they lose, they don't have to stress because it's not their main sport, and they can enjoy the opportunity to participate in the Olympics no matter what their martial art is.
